Event this Thursday! Spiritual Direction as a Quaker Ministry!

Mary Kay Glazer, Mary Linda McKinney and Della Stanley-Green are founding members of the Quaker Spiritual Directors Network. On August 20th, join three veteran Quaker spiritual directors (all of whom have three names!) in exploring the practices that enable this exploration!

According to Patty Levering in her 2006 piece for Friends Journal:

Spiritual direction is an opportunity to explore your relationship with the Divine, to be more aware of God's presence and action in your life, to look for the More that you sense is there in the midst of your life, to listen for the guidance of the Spirit, to be open to the Holy. It happens with the help of a "spiritual director," a person who listens to your story, concerns, or desires, and seeks to be a companion, nurturer, and guide as you explore that relationship.

Della Stanley-Green is co-director of the Quaker Leadership Center (QLC), a ministry of Earlham School of Religion that innovatively provides Quaker Meeting leaders with the opportunity to increase their capacity for adaptive leadership in this time of disruptive change. She is a Recorded Minister in Western Yearly Meeting and a trained spiritual director. She served as the leader of the Interim Co-Superintendent Team for Western Yearly Meeting (western and southern Indiana and eastern IL) from 2019–22. Della also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the MBAOnline@UDayton program teaching "Non-Profit Management." She previously served in ministry with Christian Theological Seminary, Indiana Network for Higher Education Ministries, and Friends United Meeting, as well as a previous time serving Western Yearly Meeting as Associate Superintendent. Della is a graduate of Earlham School of Religion with a Master of Ministry and of San Francisco Theological Seminary with a Graduate Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction. She has chosen to serve on the advisory board of the Friends Incubator for Public Ministry out of faithfulness to her call to help Friends grapple with the necessity of putting our lights on the lampstand.

Mary Linda McKinney is an interfaith spiritual director and facilitator. She leads a monthly group for Neurodivergent Friends through FGC. She volunteers frequently for her local NAMI chapter, leading classes and facilitating support group for people who love someone with a mental health condition. She is excited to begin facilitating a new support group for neurodivergent NAMI folks in August. As members of Friendship Friends Meeting, she and her spouse, Mark Wutka, have recently become co-clerks of the Body of Worship and Nurture for North Carolina Yearly Meeting-Conservative; she looks forward to bringing creative energy and willingness to experimentally follow where the Holy Spirit leads to this new role!

Mary Kay Glazer is a true friend; a calm, non-anxious presence; occasionally quirky, but really pretty ordinary. She is an ordained interspiritual minister, spiritual director, spiritual direction supervisor, retreat leader, certified Life-Cycle Celebrant®/ceremony specialist and writer. Having been raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, she has been hanging out with Quakers since 1989. She loves exploring and playing with all things spiritual - which, really, means all things life. Her background includes ordination through One Spirit Learning Alliance; Shalem Institute's Spiritual Guidance Program; and School of the Spirit's Spiritual Nurture Program. She once was a TV news producer, then worked in public relations for a variety of places, including the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester, NY. Some favorite things: authentic connection, belly laughs, reading mystery and fantasy novels, hiking, tent camping, being with her kids. She and her husband Mark Moss live in Greenville, NC and are members of Rich Square Monthly Meeting. Learn more at www.mkglazer.com and www.soulsongceremonies.com.
